BRIEF
HISTORY ON HAMPI
Hampi was founded in 1336 in a spectacular natural setting,
it was the greatest Hindu Capital for over three centuries.
The city was completely destroyed when the Emperor fell
to the invaders of North India during the mid 1500's.
Hampi is famous for its spectacular Elephant stables,
the stature of Narasimha (half man-half lion), carved
out of one piece of rock. The Musical Pillars in the
Vitalla temple deserve to be heard. The Sculpture of
a Chariot being pulled by an Elephant dominates the
entrance to the temple. Wonderful carvings can be seen
on every pillar and wall covering 26 sq. kms. on the
south banks of river Tungabhadra - Hampi is a spectacular
site.
